Pócaid is Scots Gaelic for “pocket”. Pronounced “poh-cadge”.

Pócaid is a little case with a flex-frame embedded in a casing to make it easy and quick to open and close. The colourwork outer shell is a great place to use up small amounts of yarn or experiment with colour-schemes. A knit lining completes your wee pocket and makes a snag-free environment for contents.

Materials

• Six colours of Vintage Purls Tannahill yarn (100% New Zealand Merino; 396 metres per 100g skein). 20g of each colour is ample for one case. This is a woollen spun, fingering weight yarn.
  You can use more or fewer colours if you wish, the provided colour schemes all use six colours but you can
  create your own scheme.
• 2.75mm needle or size that gives you gauge, choose whatever needles you prefer to knit a small circumference in the round (magic loop, double point needles, etc.)
  This is referred to as the smaller needle.
• 3.25mm needle or size that gives you gauge, choose whatever needles you prefer to knit a small
  circumference in the round (magic loop, double point needles, etc.) This is referred to as the larger needle.
• 8.5cm flex frame
• Darning needle
•  A marker for indicating the beginning of the round.

Gauge

30 stitches and 35 rows in 10cm (4”) in blocked colourworked stocking stitch.
Stitch gauge is essential for this item to fit the frame. Row gauge is less important so don’t fret if that is a stitch or two off.
Your unblocked work will have a significantly different gauge to the final blocked fabric. For example, when working, my stitch gauge is about 33sts per 10cm.

Size

The length of this pattern is very adaptable. I’ve provided instructions for two lengths but you can modify the length to your specific liking.
Your finished Pócaid is 8.5cm wide. The short case is 13cm long. The long case is 19cm long.
The longer length is designed to fit pens and pencils.
